That's not a niche
I had a thought.
Founders I talk to has a niche. A specific industry, a target group. A homepage that speaks directly to one person "Project management for architects". Don't get me wrong, I encourage this.
But then I opened the product.
Same features as every other tool. Generic copy. And an onboarding that could belong to anyone.
That's not a niche. That's a disguise.
Saying "this is for architects" is a promise. It means every decision that follows has to be for architects. What you build. What you cut. What you call things. What you refuse to add.
That last one is the hardest part. Especially now. When building a feature takes an afternoon, saying no requires real conviction. Every idea feels achievable. Every addition feels harmless. But that's exactly when specificity breaks down. Not from laziness. From speed.
If you removed all the copy from your product tomorrow, would a user still know who it was built for?
